Faerieland Sanctuary is managed by and for the Radical Faerie community. Top of the Garden (TotG) is the organisation that conducts this management and holds custodianship of the land. TofG is a volunteer run organisation.
Self-identifying Faeries can become members of this organisation (TotG). Those who choose to do so are ‘Active Members’. Membership allows for the opportunity to take on increasing levels of responsibility to and involvement with the organisation. This includes group decision making, taking on specific roles and/or projects and stewardship (see more below).
However, not everyone who is a part of the community will want to participate in governance, which is just another part of the work we do at Faerieland. Therefore, there will always be people who are a part of Faerieland who will not register as active members. These are ‘Community Members’.
A person is a community member if they feel that they are a community member, because a Faerieland faerie is someone who feels like they are a Faerieland faerie. Community members are invited to explore, embody and enact our shared values. We hope that they might take some of that majik with them wherever they go. There are many ways that ‘community members’ can participate in Faerieland culture. From attending gatherings and working bees to casual visits.
Active members are community members and have all the privileges of community membership. Additionally, they can join ‘circles’ (ie. working groups) and participate in group decision-making. Active members can participate in Steward Circle meetings but cannot raise objections. Applicants for active membership must:
- self-identify as faeries
- have attended at least one gathering organised by Faerieland
- agree to use Faerieland’s consent decision-making process
- agree to receive Faeriegrams.
No money is required to be an active member.
Other benefits of active membership include but are not limited to:
- create ‘circles’ of members that are empowered to manage projects/organise gatherings.
- access TotG funds (<$300*) for the realisation of these projects/gatherings
- propose ‘large development’ projects to the Steward Circle ($300-$3000*) or the Great Circle (>$3000*).
- consent to annual budget
- access all organisational documentation
- propose changes to the constitution
- call a special AGM
